Why this program matters
A Nonmilitary Service Academy for NASA, the Space Force and Industry
Created by executive order on 28 August 2026; NASA leads it.
The US Space Academy is a federal service academy without a military obligation, led by NASA and meant to train people for NASA, the US Space Force and the commercial industry. A presidential commission chaired by NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman, with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Air Force Secretary Troy Meink, will choose a site from state proposals due 26 October 2026. Louisiana - home of the planned Starbase Louisiana at Pecan Island - Alabama, Texas and Florida are bidding. Projected
It answers the constraint on the Workforce page: every program competes for the same engineers, technicians and trades, and NASA lost roughly a fifth of its civil servants in 2025. A first class of 300 in 2028 is small against an industry of hundreds of thousands, which makes the academy a pipeline signal more than a supply. Modeled

Deliberately Not Claimed
The load-bearing uncertainties, tagged with the confidence they actually earn.
The academy needs Congress. An executive order can create a commission and a plan; campus, faculty and degrees need authorization and appropriation.
Its workforce effect is a decade out. A 2028 entering class graduates around 2032 at the earliest.
