The universes
15 Universes Read as Engineering
One page per author. The works are rows on each page; verdicts are counted per link from a work to a concept.
Many of the people building the space industry learned what it might look like from these books. Each page reads one author's universe the way the destination pages read a destination: what the physics allows, what the arithmetic closes, and what flies today.

Who reads it
The Founders Read These Books
The fiction was directional; the engineering is on the pages it links to.
The space industry names its hardware after its reading. SpaceX lands boosters on ships named by Iain M. Banks, Amazon funds the television of James S. A. Corey, and China's first compute constellation carries the title of Liu Cixin's trilogy. Founders read for direction, and this cross-reference checks the direction against the arithmetic.

China
Chinese Science Fiction and the Chinese Program
Liu Cixin is China's entry, and his page is the China page.
Liu Cixin wrote The Three-Body Problem while working as a computer engineer at the Niangziguan power plant in Shanxi, and it became the first translated novel to win the Hugo Award, in 2015. China's state backs the genre: the China Film Administration and the China Association for Science and Technology issued guidelines in August 2020 to build a science fiction film industry, and Chengdu hosted the 81st World Science Fiction Convention in 2023. The program and the fiction now share names - the Three-Body Computing Constellation launched in May 2025, and FAST, the 500-meter radio dish in Guizhou, runs the search for signals that opens Liu's trilogy.
Hao Jingfang won the 2016 Hugo for the novelette "Folding Beijing," and Chen Qiufan and Han Song extend the field. Each author page carries a China note where a Chinese program bears on the concept: Tianwen-4 to Callisto on the Corey page, Fengyun-1C debris on the Stephenson page, the Three-Body constellation on the Banks page.
Contested
Deliberately Not Claimed
The load-bearing uncertainties, tagged with the confidence they actually earn.
Got it right is not a forecast. A verdict says the engineering holds. It does not say the thing will be built, or when.
Verdicts are editorial judgments. Each one rests on the arithmetic shown on the author page and the analysis on this site; where a novel and the analysis disagree, the page says why.
15 authors is a selection. The set favors hard science fiction about the solar system. Absent authors are absent for scope, not for merit.
